MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Freshman From Whitehaven High School was shot and killed in Oakshire Apartments tonight.
Orlicia Applewhite, 15 was shot standing outside in Oakshire Apartments.
Police say Orlicia Applewhite went outside , around 7:30 pm inside Oakshire Apartments after a group of men showed up harassing her .
One of the suspects began shooting , hitting Applewhite in the head, according to her brother — a split-second decision that has changed her family forever.
“I know my parents will probably never be the same,” he said. “You never think it’s going to be you, but it was.”
Orlicia Applewhite’s killing marks the 218th in the city this year — the most in a single year in more than two decades.
And now her family can only hope whoever did it will come forward.
“The sooner you turn yourself in, the easier it will be on you and us,” her sister told Channel22news
Police say the suspects took off in a white vehicle.
